Okay so I have this summer list. Yes, a list. It's a list of things I would love to do while I am down in BC this summer. Simple things like "walk to the store and get a slurpee" but also things I love to do in Vancouver like "go to Whiterock" or "go to the aquarium".
Well, one thing on the list was ride the West Coast Express. I have always wanted to, so early Wednesday morning, with all the Business people of the world, we boarded the West Coast Express at Port Haney. First train ever (well, not actually my parents say I wrote a train to Kamloops when I was like two, but that doesn't count in my mind). So Tom and I headed off to waterfront station to meet up with Stefanie. We had no plans, just fly by the seat of our pants, kinda day.
After eating breakfast we took a bus to stanley park. After walking a bit, we decided to take the free trolley in the park around. After that, we took a bus back to Waterfront and then boarded the Seabus (by the way the WCExpress ticket gave us free transit on everything all day) to North Vancouver for lunch. After eating lunch at the Quay and sitting sipping Bubble Tea on the hot sunny deck, we took the sea bus back to Vancouver. Then we decided to take the sky train, and another bus to Queen Elizabeth Park (never been there, so hey, we heard it was nice!) After that little fun excursion to the park (such a nice park, and free too!) we got back on the bus (several connector's actually) and went to MEC. Then back on the bus/sky train to Waterfront station...and onto the West Coast Express back to good ol' Maple Ridge!
So, in total, for the price of one train ticket, we took: 2 WCE Train rides, six bus rides, 2 sea bus rides, 2 sky trains, and 2 Trolley car rides. Pretty sweet hey?! This day was an Ode to the Vancouver Transit system! 14 Rides in one day. Wow.

So I am attempting to learn German....don't laugh. I signed up for a night course this semester through U of C, and so far it's been fun! You will be happy to know that after five classes, I have moved past Wie gettes? All the way to naming the furniture and buying food. Good times. It's pretty hard to find time to practise though with a full time job and whatever else life demands (life demands hanging out with my staff team doing fun things like snowboarding too!). Auch, I could probably be learning more if I was actually working on it daily like they advise, but alas, I am back to student life where I do my homework an hour before class. Some things never change.

Haha...I just looked at my blog...thinking I haven't blogged in a long time. And then we (me and some friends) had a good laugh at the fact that I wrote about how it was so stinkin' cold and it was only -23! This January we have had -48 with the windshield! Well, just goes to say when winter hits, it's January. Yep, in November I didn't know what was coming!

Okay it's officially cold outside. Yesterday the temp dropped to -16 (but said, it feels like -23) and man, you could tell the difference. We haven't really had winter cold like that at all this year yet, so I guess we should be thankful-we had a warm November. Today was the first big snowfall, and yes again, -16ish. I feel like it's freezing! I think it's because my new staff from Vancouver is freaking out about the cold (like me when I first moved to SK) so I feel like it's colder! Haha. Oh Vancouver. I heard you had snow recently, nothing that sticks or anything, but enough that you talk about it for days :)
Since it's been cold, and now snowy (which I don't mind at all by the way, it makes everything beautiful!) I have had that song "Baby it's cold outside"in my head...everyday I am humming it! That's okay cause I LOVE CHRISTMAS and that song and the snow just bring on the Christmas feelings. I even bought a christmas-y scented candle. mmm...sushi..........
Okay so I was going to give up blogging...but maybe I will write again.
Growing up in Vancouver has spoiled me in terms of cheap, delicious, asian food! For example, it's really hard to find good sushi in Calgary. The pictures below are of a bunch of us finally finding sushi...after driving all over Calgs! And it's not cheap...either. I am disappointed in the sushi selection here in cowtown. Should I be surprised though? Aren't we supposed to be the most 'redneck' province? I guess I will leave that up to you to decide.
Looks pretty good, right? Well, it was okay. Pricey.
By this time, the sushi had gone to their heads...

Just after we got out of the cody caves, we realized that the sky was fairly smokey. Not thinking much of it we drove back to the campsite. We thought at first the ash falling from the sky was our neighbor's campfire, but then we realized that it was actually raining ash! Apparently there was a forest fire nearby and it was so large it actually caused ash to be carried to a large surrounding area. It was crazy! Our tent was covered!
We drove the southern way home from BC, in order to check out Waterton park, but apparently there was a large forest fire in Montana just across the border and everything was smokey there too! We didn't get to see any of Waterton! Apparently, hotels were even offering dirt cheap room rates cause no one would stay in Waterton due to the smoke!
It would have been a bummer, but while driving south we got to check out Frank's slide, which was pretty impressive. Here's a picture of it:
